General Notes: Husband - Robert Gavron

Publisher millionaire and philanthropist. He was appointed a member o f the House of Lords by British Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair on Au gust, 6, 1999. Thus he was known as "Lord Gavron," his official titl e being Baron of Highgate. He was also appointed a Commander of the O reder of the Britich Empire in 1990.

He was a lawyer at first and later became a successful publisher. H e founded the St. Ives Group in 1964, and was its chairman from 1964 t o 1993. His other publishing endeavors included: director of Octopu s Publishing (1975-1987); director of Electra Management (1981-1992) ; proprietor of the Carcanet Press (1983-2015); chairman of the Foli o Society (1982-2015); chairman of the National Gallery Company (1996- 1998); chairman of the Guardian Media Group; trustee of the Scott Trus t (1997-2000).

Lord Gavron was also chairman of the Open College of the Arts (1991-19 96); a director of the Royal Opera House (1992-1998); a trustee of th e National Gallery (1994-2001); a trustee of the Paul Hamlyn Foundatoi n (1987-2005); a governor of the London Schooll of Economics (1997-200 2); and chairman of the Robert Gavron Charitable Trust (1974-2015).

He was also a great fan of cricket and in 2001 he established the Lor d Gavron Scholarship to aid promising young cricket players.

Rober Gavron was married three times. His first wife was Hannah Fybe l (b. Tel Aviv), a daughter of T.R. Fyvel, literary editor of Tribun e and The Jewish Chronicle. Hannah committed suicide in 1995.

Robert Gavron's second wife was Felicia Nicolette C. Coates, known a s Nicky (b. November 24, 1941, Worcester, England), daughter of a Germ an Jew who came to England in the 1930's. She is a municipal politici an and has served as deputy mayor of London, and as a member of the Lo ndon Assembly. She and Robert Gavron divorced in 1997.
