General Notes: Husband - Jakob Cohn

Merchant. HIs birth and death dates are taken from the book Szkize ge nealogiczne by Kazimierz Reychman. According to this book "Jakob Kon " was a participant in the 1863-64 January Uprising. He was in the ca valry and won the French military medal for bravery, the "Madaille Mil itaire." It also describes him as a "Marymontczyk" presumably meanin g he was a graduate of the school of agronomy at Marymont, near Warsaw . He was married to Eliza Rozental, daughter of Doctor Dawid Rosental , who was himself a professor at the school of agronomy. They were ma rried on January 27, 1857. Jakob Kon and Eliza Rozental are listed i n Reychman's book under the Rozental family, and he does not give th e names of Jakob Kon's parents.

After the Uprising Jakob Cohn went to Paris. On May 10, 1865 he was g ranted the right to reside in Paris and to enjoy civil rights whole re siding there [source: Belletin des lois de l'empire francais, vol. 26 , page 887]. There he is called "Jacques Cohn, merchant, born in Vars ovie, living in Paris (Seine)" and his date of birth is geven as Dec . 3, 1832. This is the same day as that given by Reychman but the yea r is different. HIs brother Stanislaw Cohn also went to Paris and wa s granted the right to live in Paris at the same time.

On October 4, 1868, Jakob (Jacques) Cohn was granted the rights of a F rench citizen.

According to the book Wolnomularze polscy i w kraju na swiecie, 1821-1 999; Slownik biograficzny by Ludwik Hass - a biographical dictionary a bout Poles who belonged to the Freemasons - Jakob Cohn applied as a ca ndidate for admission to the Mount Sinai Lodge of the Freemasons in Pa ris "before Jan. 13, 1864 during a short-lived [or transient or passin g] arrival" in the city. This seems to imply he didn't stay in Pari s permanently at this early date. Hass gives Jakob Cohn's birth dat e as April 4, 1831.
