At the age of four she went to live in the house of her aunt Sarolta (sister of her mother Pepi) in Marghita. This occured after the death of her father Joseph Markus Ungar. Her aunt Sarolta and her husband wanted to adopt Lenke as their own child, but Lenke's mother Pepi opposed it.
