General Notes: Husband - George Samuel Golden

1) George's mother, Lena, is said to have died when George was abou t 8 months old, but she appears in the 1920 census. He is said to hav e been virtually raised by his sister Rachel.

2) As a child, and later in life through the families of his siblings , he was known as Sam, or Sammy. While married to Beatrice, when his s on Marvin was a toddler, he worked two jobs, including one as a taxi d river. According to his niece Lenore, Beatrice met someone (probably M endel "Manny" Feder) and began having an affair while George was out w orking. Also according to Lenore, George came home from work and foun d the house empty, Beatrice having left with Marvin. George managed t o see Marvin once more, tracing them to the apartment of Beatrice's fa mily, where she lived briefly with Marvin. [See entry on Marvin Murra y Golden Feder for more information.] George is said to have adored hi s son, and was broken-hearted when he could no longer see him.

3)) Marvin (nee Golden) Feder, in November 2003, stated that he "knew " his mother had started dating Manny while still married to his fathe r, although it is more likely that as he grew older he simply put toge ther an understanding of certain implications of some of his memorie s of the time. He had no recollection of life with his father, only o f the last time they met. [See his entry.]

4) George stayed in New York for a while, where he met and married Jea n Pelinsky. Since George was unable to see his son, the courts havin g awarded full and sole custody to Beatrice, they decided to move to C alifornia to start over.

5)) According to a May 3, 2004 phone conversation between Suzanne Fede r and Morris Tashner, brother of Beatrice Tachner, the Tachna family l ived in an unheated apartment, moved for a while to a nicer apartmen t (with steam heat), and then moved back to the same unheated apartmen t. It was while they lived in the nicer apartment that the Goldens, in cluding George, lived with the Tachnas. Morris did not recall his ow n age at the time they lived together, but was old enough to have form ed an admittedly biased (his term) opinion of George. He said that Geo rge struck him as a cold person who did not treat his wife particularl y well. He said that George was a stock market speculator, and lost ev erything in the crash. He said the financial situation may have contri buted to the breakup of the marriage. After that, George drove a tax i for a living, and once found an old typewriter in the back seat whic h he subsequently sold to Morris for $25. [See entry on Morris for mor e about this story.] [See entry on Beatrice for more details.]
