General Notes: Wife - Cornelia Hahn

Prominent landscape architect in Canada. Married to Peter Heinz Oberl ander. Cornelia left Germany in 1938 with her mother and sister. Sh e studied at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts and later a t Harvard where she met her future husband Peter Oberlander. He was f rom Vienna and also a refugee from the Nazi regime. He fled to Englan d in the 1930's and was interned there as an enemy alien. Later he wa s sent to Canada and interned there. After his release he studied a t McGill University in Montreal and later at Harvard.

Peter and Cornelia moved to Canada and lived in Vancouver where Cornel ia still resides. Cornelia started her own firm - "Cornelia Hahn Ober lander Architects" - in Vancouver in 1953. She has worked on some maj or projects in North America such as Robson Square in Vancouver, The V ancouver Public Library, the National Gallery in Ottawa, and the New Y ork Times Building. Peter was also a landscape architect, as well a s professor of regional planning and director of the Centre for Huma n Settlement at the University of British Columbia. A recent biograph y of Cornelia was published in 2014.
