General Notes:
He studied under his great-uncle, Rabbi Jacob of LIssa. He became th e first Av Beis Din Potok through the efforts of his great-uncle. H e is mentioned in the responsa of scholars of his day, Chatam Sofer, M aHaRI Asher Anschel Zusmen, MaHaRI Kohen (by Rabbi Israel Rappoport o f Tarnow) and Yad Yosef (By Rabbi Joseph Joel Deutsch, Av Beis Diin Mo nastyriska). Later, on the death of Rabbi Jacob HaKohen Gutwirth (als o a student of his great-uncle, Rabbi Jacob of Lissa) in 1848, he beca me Av Beis Din of Dukla. Here he came into conflict with the Chassidi c movement which has a large following in the town, including the lead ers of the Jewish community. He left to become Av Beis Din of Tysmeni tsa where he lived in peace until his death there in 1860. His book M e'orot Nathan was published in 1904 in Drohobycz.
